Many people can't tell the difference between the mask they show the world , and the person they were meant to be. For most , the mask they wear is who they believe they are.
The face they show the world was developed for survivial, and usually is not the real "Self" they were meant to be. We all know the mask we used when we were offended by a word or deed, yet acted as if, it meant nothing. Or even the reserse of internialization, something that creates "road rage".in others.
It is this separation of the True Self, and that of the personailty, the face we show the world.
Why this gap in ones personality? Becuase we were set up that way. As children we needed to survive in what we saw as an hard to understand world. So inherent in our psyche was a protective mechanism called the ego. When we felt threatened the ego made the decision to flee, fight, freeze. However at the same time, our Soul or our true Self , houses no fear at all. Just as the body absorbs fear, the Soul fears nothing. Leaving us to conclude, that fear belongs soley to our body, as does the personalitys ego.
Another understaning of this, would be the difference between our own Self Image and that of our personalitys body image. A very harsh example of this would be anorexia. The person who has this disease, see a completely different image when they look at themselves. That image is not the reality, but a body image they have made, based upon a lack they see within them. This example only applies to the body. However our personalities also create a separation from our Highest Self, and who we want others to see us as. Most times this separation is based on the fear of what others think of us. Rather than what God asks us to be.
What God wants us to be, has nothing to do with what others think or feel. Christ Himself, never expressed doing what others did. In truth, He came to show us how to live out of the mainstream. He taught us that the God of our Being speaks to us through the Goodness of our Being.
He taught us that life is not a personality contest. Its not the Pharasees nor the money changers who tell us what we should do , believe or .own. But rather our Highest Ethical Being, that we should aspire to be.
The life of the body, is a blessing that God has provided us, however it is in that we need to become the likeness of He who sent us.
When we worry more about what others think of us, we place our importance on the validation of thier opinion.. Christ never dealt with opinions. He validated Himself based upon the values inherent in His Heavenly Father.
Most people believe that Christ based His teachings on Love. However no one can truly love as a Christ, if they have yet to live a life completely in Truth. The Love of CHrist cannot exist without Truth.
Think of it, CHrist never said , I am Love. He said, I am the way, the Truth, and the Life.. He who believes in Me though he be dead will live. That statement has been used by many to free themselves of responsibility.
However , if we were to be free of all responsiblity, why are there still churches, pastors or any religious or spiritual things being written to this day?
Why do we still search for who we are or what we want to be? Becuase until we devote ourselves to Christ or God, we will never truly be satisfied. We will want the next toy, the next thrill, the next fix, for we will never truly be feeding the part of us that belongs solely to God. The part of us that is truly living. The part of us that is truly fulfilled.
We need first, to understand where we stand in our development. By understanding how we use the Mask.
Before we can begin to remove it ,and face the world in the Truth of who we truly are.
