I don't know about you, but when I end a letter or thank you note, I always end it with, Sincerely. I believe that most people think Sincerely is a thing of the heart rather than at of the mind. However, I once saw a piece, that said, Sincerely is the virtue of the Mind.
To me, when one is conscious of what they do, they would see it as a Mind and Heart thing. In-fact, the word sincerity might be the best word to express what is TRUE.
The dictionary's definition is, "without deceit". That in itself speaks volumes. When you say you are truly sincere, it means that both your heart and mind are expressing the same dynamic. That they wish to impart to the receiver something more than being polite, or politically correct.
Just think of all the insincerity we are spewing today, just to not offend. I can speak whats in my heart when I have to temper my feelings, and stifle my mind. Whats so ironic is, that when I was a child, people had no idea of what being politically correct meant? Yet somehow the were so much kinder. There was so much less violence, and who ever heard of a gun being brought to school, much less ever thinking it might be used?
Can I link this to a lack of sincerity? Maybe not, however I can say without it, it has become a more angry world.
Sincerity might become something of the past, however for us to really begin becoming human, I believe that the cynicism of our young comes from a real lack of it. I also believe that the generation that believes in Peace at any Price, live with the least amount of sincerity. One cant be both sincere and cynical at the same time. Like one cant trust oneself or another, if any mistrust of another lives within them.
So will we ever see Sincerity make a come back anytime soon? I certainly hope so. For no matter how good we are as caring human beings, if we are not wholly sincere in all that we do, or all that we give; we are just fooling ourselves in to believing we are better than we truly are.
To smile in the face of another, with even the slightest hint of not feeling that smile, is a distortion of Truth.
To say you love someone and hold one judgement against them, is not being sincere.
Sincerity is one of our most precious values, it should be treated in the likeness of its name.
