Can You Love Others.. if you have yet Learned to Love Yourself?

June 3, 2008

I believe you can. I remember  having a deep love of mankind, that was held in my heart, while I learned how to truly love myself. I believe, when one has that much compassion for others, it can only be the beginning to loving more. I learned that I indeed, I loved who I was, however my misconception was, what does one accept or allow as degrees or expressions of that love?

I allowed, others to express what wasn't love towards me, because I was consumed with Love.

For a Christ, that is what is expected, for a human living with Christ, that became a deep concern.

Why if you loved who you were would you ever allow another to treat you with disrespect? Because Jesus did. He gave us the example of complete humility, and acceptance of ones destiny. His faith in who He was and His Godly mission precluded that He follow those precepts. That He give His life, for His belief in His Fathers Will..

To what degree would I go to follow HIs lead? I'm no longer sure. For I have seen too much misunderstandings when it came to love. Too many representations that hold no real accountability when we love without recompense.

Yes we are asked to love without strings, however I have found that to be a complete illusion. Even God expects a return of His love...That was the reason for Christ's existence. To show the world, to what degree it can learn to love! And what was He asking of us , in that love other than to treat others with respect , honor, decency ..all these ..expressions of love.  So I had to rethink what acceptance  really meant. Does it mean you allow others to treat you unkindly? Demean or diminish you? Call you things that don't in honor represent who you are?

Should we allow others to have dominion over us? If they have yet to have dominion over themselves?

I see now that Christ never asked us to allow injustice towards ourselves or others. He never asked us to pick up a banner or a cause..that was Judas's role. He never ask us to go "green" or do what was politically correct.

He never dealt with the world from that perspective..He asked only each individual to care and love themselves, not tell others how they should love. He asks only that we be good stewards of the earth, not make the Earth  more of our concern, than Heaven. What have you done for Heaven today, should be more of the worlds concerns.

You say , but I helped people in Africa or Bali or gave to some cause of the day..and believe you have truly served God. You may do all those things, and if you  disrespect another with just one word, you have done nothing to improve either Heaven nor Earth.

How many people do you know who do good outside but within their home they cause discontent..what good is the world , if you have lost your souls reason for being?

What good have we really done the Earth, if we cant live treat with respect, with the very person we have chosen to marry? I believe it time to put down our outside "goods" to rethink what is really most important at the end of the day. And ask ourselves the real task put before  us, by the Christ...to love our neighbor ( wife , husband, mother , son daughter , friend and co worker)  as we would like to be loved. With Honesty and  Respect  !
