Both sides are constantly defining what patriotism means. Obama certainly is right , when he says its not just wearing a flag pin on your lapel. But is burning our flag, a patriotic act. Some see it as just that. To me its an act of defiance and protestation. So do we have to disrespect or defile something, in order to define our position? I think not. It is my understanding, that defiling a symbol ,that for some has the blood of sacrifice on it, would be similar to defiling the sacred wood of Christs cross.
Symbols have intense meaning, and should not be minimized to satisfy some peoples sense of anarchy . It seems that many Politically Correct or Secular minded folks, seem to easily destroy or dispel symbols , finding no qualms in diminishing their intensity. Yet those very same people will promote making use of these same symbols, when they are used as symbols of protest. Like the symbol of flag burning.
What amazes me is how angry the opposition can become, when it comes to someone having the same amount of conviction, but at the other end of thought. What I also find humorous is , how violent those who protest peace can become, when their ideas are challenged.
So what is the summary one can conclude from this kind of right left brain separation. That there is indeed a middle ground. I would appreciate not being placed in a box and labeled by someone other then myself. I am single minded, but also multidimensional. Because I believe in Christ, does that automatically put me into a group who is seen as lesser enlightened? Does God for some, have the same meaning as supporting superstistion or ignorance?
Here's what I have found. Those who place little importance in God, seem to also place little importance on keeping ones word, standing on principles or valuing more then just the immediate. When I say I believe in God, or the Christ, it has never been because of guilt or fear. It has always been because I loved with my whole heart His commitment to His principles. His love for His fellow man. For the sacrifice of giving His life, shedding His Divine Blood, so that many would live.
For me , this is far more than any anarchist can promise me. More than any "green" party can supply. And much more than any self loathing of America can provide. This is what separates the men from the boys.
The boys will see things only their way. They are unable to be wrong, in their own eyes much less in the eyes of others. They cant be exposed, because they will never say that they were wrong in the first place.. Even though this belief has little to do with right or wrong, if one is completely secure , can admit to it. For nothing more than to correct a wrong, for a better right-relationship.
Christ was never wrong, His life was one of complete righteousness. He loved but never forced another to do so. He instead asked us to love our neighbor as ourselves for the Love of God, not for a greater government!
Partiotism is a love of country, and all who are in it. It also doesnt mean becuase we are patriotic, that we also cant be global. If we rely on government for all, we deny God His generosity. When we expect a politician to fulfill, what only our Savior can deliver, we are truly fooling ourselves. When a man needs to do good for goodness sake, you are indeed living the Christ in you. However , the Christ I love, lives wholly in the Eternal Truth.
In living only the truth of ones being. Expressing our Soul. Lets hope the trust we place in Mr Obama to show the world the heart of the Christ, is what he is all about.
